Overview

The second edition of “The World Truck Manufacturing Industry” report provides a clear summary of the major and minor truck builders throughout the world. Great effort has gone into preparing the report to ensure consistency of content. The report looks at the history of the global truck builders and tracks key changes over the past few years. Company performance in terms of production, sales and financial performance for the last five years to the end of 2012 is included.  The report also provides a breakdown of the product range and alternative fuel and drive developments by each company.

The report consists of a global overview chapter and ten regional chapters. Each chapter includes an economic summary by country, truck production output for 2008 - 2012 and truck sales volume, where available, for the same period. All truck manufacturing and assembly operations in the region are listed.

Regional chapters

Within each regional chapter, all truck manufacturers with headquarters or major subsidiaries in the region are profiled with a brief history of mergers and acquisitions, corporate structure, shareholders, market strategy, model range, sales performance and financial performance (the latter two covering 2008 – 2012). In the major truck manufacturing regions, all smaller-volume, specialist truck manufacturers are also recorded. Within regions such as Africa and Southeast Asia, where there are mostly only assembly operations that are supplied with CKD kits from manufacturing facilities elsewhere, these are simply listed by OEM with models produced and other key information also recorded.

Manufacturer profiles

In parallel, there is a separate suite of reports within the chapters on each of the seven leading ‘world’ truck manufacturers that have major manufacturing facilities in two or more of Europe, North America, Asia and South America. In each of these reports, all of the OEM’s subsidiaries are included along with the information included in the relevant regional chapters. These ‘world’ OEMs include: Daimler Trucks (Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Western Star, Mitsubishi Fuso); Volvo Trucks (Volvo, Renault Trucks, Mack, UD Trucks); Scania; MAN; Paccar (Kenworth, Peterbilt, DAF Trucks); Iveco and Isuzu.
