UK / GermanyRicardo plc, an engineering consultancy based in Shoreham-by-Sea, UK and the Fraunhofer Society of Munich, Bavaria, Germany have been selected by the European Commission to come up with a single harmonised life cycle assessment for zero-emission vehicles and batteries.

The intention is to define a single European-wide approach to assessing the environmental impacts of zero-emission vehicles and batteries. This would make it possible to directly compare different products and determine which are more environmentally friendly. Ricardo argues that it would also help to make the environmental impacts of such products more transparent to customers and regulators. In addition, the job of designing new products would be made easier by having a unified standard to work with.
