UK – British retailer Marks & Spencer plc has announced that it has taken five battery electric trucks as part of the ‘eFreight 2030’ government project, and it is deploying a further 80 natural gas trucks in an effort to reduce its fleet emissions.
The five battery electric trucks are ‘E-Tech T’ 42-tonners from French manufacturer Renault Trucks. These will distribute clothing and homeware from a depot in Welham Green to thirty stores across London and the southeast of England. The trucks were delivered to Marks & Spencer as part of the “zero emission HGV and infrastructure demonstrator”, or “ZEHID” programme, funded by the ‘eFreight 2030’ project.1 The electric trucks have replaced five equivalent diesel trucks, and their performance will be monitored to see how they can replace conventional vehicles in everyday operations.
