China / Ecuador – Operator, Compañía de Transporte Saucinc SA of Guaiaquil in Ecuador, in March 2019 is to start transporting passengers using electric buses bought from the Chinese company, BYD Inc of Shenzhen. Through a finance package of some USD7.7m, credited by the National Finance Corporation, it has acquired 20, BYD D9A high floor electric vehicles.

The vehicle specifications – see below - are 12m long and have a passenger capacity to carry 80 passengers. All are to be equipped with air conditioning systems. 20 fast-charging plug-in stations are to be installed along the operating routes (as well overnight charging at the operator’s bus garages), which are intended to be used for powering this and other future transportation projects. Guayaquil is said to be the first city in Ecuador to offer zero emission mobility.
