The company said it obtained a letter of conformity to IATF 16949 on the design and manufacturing perimeters for its ‘SymphonHy’ site from testing and certification firm Bureau Veritas last December, exactly a year after the gigafactory’s inauguration.

The JV has procured 16 hectares of land in Weilheim, Germany, with plans to establish a large-scale production facility responsible for producing its NextGen fuel cell systems. The start of production at the Weilheim site is planned to align with the introduction of EU CO2 legislation, currently estimated around 2030.

On 30 September 2024, Britain’s last remaining coal-fired power station at Ratcliffe-on-Soar was closed down. Opened in 1968, the power station had a capacity of 2,000 MW and annual carbon emissions in the millions of tonnes when it was decommissioned. Today, local authorities and consortia have new ambitions for the old plants: to repurpose the existing infrastructure for the production of green hydrogen. That was the message carried away by news reporters who attended an open day at the Loughborough University campus on 8 November. Visitors got to see some mature products of the transition taking place in the east midlands. These were the fuel-cell-powered vehicles displayed by Intelligent Energy Ltd in front of its headquarters on the edge of the campus.

Successful applicants will receive up to USD200,000 in the first phase to prove the feasibility of an idea; they may then receive up to USD1m towards further development of their idea, including prototyping, validation, and testing.

The two partners will focus primarily on hydrogen fuel cell research

Under the ‘Be a First Mover in Hydrogen’ theme, Hyundai showcased its hydrogen business and technologies covering the entire hydrogen value chain - developed mostly under its HTWO division.

In response to delays in hydrogen infrastructure development and slower-than-expected adoption of fuel cell technology, the company aims to reduce operating expenses by over 30%. Key actions include workforce reductions, rationalisation of product development programs, and cuts to capital expenditures.

The single stack fuel cell is aimed at the heavy-duty CV market, including refuse vehicles. Hyzon says the new 200kW system is a major improvement over previous versions, offering 20% more range per kilogram of hydrogen compared with the 120kW model and reducing both volume and weight by about roughly 30%.

The NM20 is apparently still in development, with initial customer deliveries to begin towards the end of this year.

The company, which was established in 2019 to develop hydrogen-powered engines, fuel cells, components and other equipment designed to help establish an hydrogen transportation eco-system, today employs around 800 people and has five R&D centres globally.
