The station will serve Rheinbahn’s fleet of approximately twenty hydrogen buses, municipal waste‑collection vehicles and future commercial trucks. By offering rapid, high-volume refuelling, it supports flexible, zero‑emission operations and bolsters Germany’s ambition of achieving carbon neutrality in transport.

This collaboration provides fleet operators with comprehensive hydrogen mobility packages, combining Keyou’s hydrogen combustion trucks with GP Joule’s green hydrogen production and refuelling network.

This project is significant because it brings cost-effective green hydrogen closer to commercial reality, with Ceres still targeting a production cost of USD 1.5/kg by 2025.

“Sany Hydrogen”, a hydrogen energy equipment manufacturer based in China, will partner with Putzmeister to construct “green” production plants for European and African customers.

This development is particularly significant for the commercial vehicle (CV) sector, where affordable green hydrogen could accelerate the adoption of hydrogen-powered vehicles, especially in long-haul transport.

The hope is that these autonomous operations will stimulate the further expansion of fuel infrastructure for hydrogen trucks, producing a “self-reinforcing cycle of vehicle adoption, infrastructure development, and lower operational costs per unit”.

Through this collaboration both companies aim to address the infrastructure and vehicle availability challenges in hydrogen mobility, supporting the transition to cleaner transportation solutions.

These hubs will offer electric charging, hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), hydrogen, and bio-compressed natural gas (bio-CNG) to support the rollout of zero-emission commercial vehicles.

For the commercial vehicle sector, this partnership expands fuel supply options, with the potential to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen power in commercial vehicles in Germany.

Focus on developing flexible refueling systems for cars and trucks.

Together with its financial and legal advisors, Nikola assessed “available and credible alternatives” that would allow it to keep the business going, but it has now concluded that a “structured sale process” of its assets would be the best way to return money to its stakeholders.
