Air Liquide has announced a significant renewable hydrogen project at TotalEnergies' La Mède biorefinery in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, France. The EUR 80 million investment is expected to produce 25,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually by 2028.

The collaboration aims to enhance the efficiency of hydrogen production by leveraging SOEC technology, which operates at high temperatures and uses less energy compared to traditional electrolysis methods.

This deal will create significant revenues for Ceres through licensing fees, royalty payments, engineering services and hardware over multiple years. The majority of the revenue generated will come through royalty payments on any hydrogen delivered to the end customers.

Air Products will produce and supply the hydrogen to the various stations which will be aided by the new hydrogen liquefaction plant currently being built in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Once operational, this will double Europe’s total liquid hydrogen supply.
