Wrightbus says it has worked for two years on a 6x2 chassis which can cope with fixed axle and steering axle configurations and can allow for extra battery packs without reducing passenger capacity.

This investment signals a major investment in electrified transportation solutions. Shell’s technology centre will test supplier agnostic charging systems to ensure the systems are safe and robust in extreme conditions before roll-out.

The new system is being trialled in Erfurt and “taps into the depot’s 750 V DC catenary to feed two CCS chargers, delivering 100 kW per port or a combined 200 kW output”.

Nearly two years ago, we spoke with the chief executive officer of Imagry, Eran Ofir, about the Israeli company’s “mapless” self-driving technology and its planned on-road tests with Otokar. At the UITP global summit, held in the German city of Hamburg between 15-18 June, Truck & Bus Builder spoke with Suhail Habib, an engineer at the company, to get an update on the company’s activities.

EKA Mobility has incorporated KPIT’s hydrogen fuel cell technology into its next-generation electric bus platform, while BPCL has installed the hydrogen production, dispensing, and refuelling infrastructure in Kochi.

A total of 37 vehicles, including H2 fuel cell and combustion engine-powered coaches and trucks, will be deployed on 10 different routes across the country.

It is less than a year since German automotive components giant Schaeffler merged with Vitesco Technologies Group to form a single “motion technology company”. Retaining the Schaeffler name, the new company is now in the process of combining the two product lines of Schaeffler and Vitesco together under a single brand. At the company’s stand at the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo – held between 28 April and 1 May in Anaheim, California – the two companies’ portfolios were nearly indistinguishable. It marked the first time that the newly-merged company presented itself as a supplier of comprehensive system solutions to the North American commercial vehicle market.

This year’s edition of the Advanced Clean Transportation Expo featured a more balanced range of driveline technologies, from battery and fuel cell electric at one end of the scale to propane, natural gas, and hydrogen combustion at the other. However, decarbonising the internal combustion engine is not as simple as replacing diesel with a different fuel; the different combustion characteristics of natural gas and hydrogen require alterations be made to the engine so that it works optimally with the new fuel type.
