Brazil – An interview in November 2020 with Karl Deppen, president of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil and CEO for Latin America with T&BB’s South American correspondent, Jose Secco, shared some important details about the Brazilian market as well as providing an outlook for CV demand over the coming years.

In answering the first question asking Deppen to assess the performance of the truck and bus market in Brazil and the rest of South America this past year (2020), Deppen said: ‘In the same way it has happened all around the world, the pandemic has affected sales of commercial vehicles in Brazil. According to ANFAVEA, (National Association of Automotive Vehicles Manufacturers) there was a fall of 15.5% in the volume of licensed trucks in the period from January to October this year (2020), compared with the same period in 2019, reaching approximately 70,700 licensed trucks. In the case of buses (and coaches), the decrease was 34.3%, with a total volume that exceeded 11,400 licensed units.’
