UK – Accountancy firm Price Bailey LLP of Bishop’s Stortford, UK reported on 1 December that, over the last 12 months, a record number of British haulage businesses went bust, more than double the amount from two years ago.

According to data obtained through a freedom of information request, the number of hauliers entering insolvency has increased dramatically year-on-year, from 225 in 2020/21, to 363 in 2021/22 and then to 463 in 2022/23. This represents a rise of 173% between 30 September 2021 and 2023. Price Bailey also discovered that 33% of businesses in the sector are deemed maximum risk compared to 22% 12 months ago, based on credit risk scores.
