Germany - Transport company, Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) has ordered 17 MAN Lion’s City E buses – this is one of two tendered lots and is the first commercial order to be announced by MAN. Delivery of the vehicles will begin in the second half of 2020, and all 17 of the 12m buses should be delivered by the end of the year. VHH was presented with a single vehicle at the end of December 2019, which it will use in everyday operations to gain experience and to provide familiarisation.

The Lion’s City 12 E can accommodate up to 88 passengers. Batteries are placed on the roof allowing easier access for service work. MAN uses a central motor on the rear axle. It produces 160kW up to a maximum of 240kW. The modular batteries have 480kWh of installed capacity and incorporate sophisticated temperature management to ensures a high level of availability, regardless of the time of year. MAN claims they can reliably ensure a range of 200km (and up to 270 km in favourable conditions) over the entire service life of the batteries.
