U.S. EPA publishes finalised emission standards and proposes EV sales targets for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles

USA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on 29 March that it has finalised greenhouse gas emission standards for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, for model years 2027 through 2032.

The EPA’s latest “Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles”, now in its third phase, stipulates the maximum permitted emissions in grams per ton-mile that will be allowed for each subcategory of vehicle – divided according to its weight and application. In Tables 1 and 2 below, the CO2 emission standards for vocational vehicles and tractor units are laid out in full.
