Japan - Sales of medium- and heavy-duty trucks (.4.5 tons gvw) rose by 5.7% to 42,104 units in the second quarter from already strong year-earlier sales of 39,823 units, driven by buoyant domestic spending despite slower economic growth in the country.

First-half sales were up by 4.6% at 92,904 units from 88,821 units previously, driven by a strong performance by market leader, Isuzu Motors, which saw its sales rising by almost 11% to 31,431 units. Second-placed Hino’s sales increased by just over 2% to 27,841 units, while Mitsubishi-Fuso’s sales fell by 2.4% to 13,129 units. Toyota enjoyed strong gains with sales of its Dyna truck rising by almost 10% to 12,129 units, while Nissan’s sales decreased by almost 20% to 2,226 units.
