India - Volvo Trucks India Pvt Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of Swedish AB Volvo has introduced the FM 380 8x41 rigid truck to enhance its presence in the Indian construction and other heavy-duty truck segment. Launched officially back in October last year, the FM 380 8x4 is powered with the Volvo 13-litre D13 A380 BS IV compliant engine, which delivers 380hp power at 1,400-1,900 rev/min and 1,900Nm at 1,000-1,400 rev/min. This is effectively a lower horsepower model, which joins Volvo’s heavy truck portfolio of the FMX 460 8x4, FM 420 6x4 and FMX 8x4 Tridem. This is matched with the Volvo I-Shift automated transmission with 12 forward and four reverse gears. Volvo is offering two body options, the 19.5 cubic metre rock body and the 23 cubic metre U-body for the construction and mining sectors. These bodies, which are fitted at its assembly plant in Bangalore, are supplied with tipping gear equipment suppliers, Hyva and Hypratek.

Dinakar B, senior vice-president, Sales, Marketing & Aftermarket, Volvo Trucks India, said: “With the launch of the FM380 8x4 and the first of its kind FMX 460 8x4 19.5 cubic metre granite body, we are geared to raise the current standards of productivity, efficiency and reliability in the construction segment to support our customers in achieving higher operational efficiency and savings with timely delivery of projects.”
