Argentinian truck market hit by recession but OEMs continue to invest

Argentina - The difficulties of Argentina’s economy, which began in July last year is continuing and causing damage to Argentina’s automotive industry suggests ACARA, the Association of Concessionaires of the Argentine Republic. It reports the entire automotive sector has shrunk with the commercial vehicle segment gravely impacted, as it is responsible for transportation of at least 80% of the country’s goods.

In the first quarter this year, the Argentine commercial vehicle industry above 3.5t gvw closed the quarter with 2,929 vehicles sold, down 58.7% compared with the same period in 2018, when 7,094 vehicles were sold. In March, it recorded sales of only 838 trucks and buses against 1,992 units in the same month last year, with a decrease corresponding to 57.9%.
