Brazil - A legislation Bill, currently going through parliament, is set to stimulate the renewal and recycling of Brazil’s truck fleet. It establishes terms and funding for the renewal of road haulage vehicles together with mechanisms to remove vehicles of 30 years old and older from circulation in an environmentally responsible manner.

The objective is to withdraw from circulation the trucks with more than 30 years of use, which totalled 230,000 vehicles in 2016, according to ANFAVEA (National Association of Manufacturers of Motor Vehicles) or the equivalent of 20% of the national fleet at that time. To ensure that discarded trucks are properly disposed of the text of the legislation provides for the recycling of vehicles, which includes the processes of dismantling and reuse of materials, wherever possible.
