UK - The City of Liverpool is set to be the first place in the North of England to trial hydrogen fuel cell buses following a successful GBP6.4m bid to the government’s Office for Low Emission Vehicles.

The bid was put forward by a consortium led by industrial gases company, BOC Group of Guildford, UK (a Linde Group subsidiary) and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, the Arcola Energy Ltd, a London-based specialist in hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and bus manufacturer, Alexander Dennis Ltd (ADL) of Falkirk. The project will also be progressed in conjunction with some of the UK’s largest operating companies, Arriva and Stagecoach, as members of the city region’s Bus Alliance.
