BrazilScania do Brasil Ltda of São Bernardo do Campo, SP has sold its first bi-articulated BRT buses in Brazil to the city of Curitiba (PR). Viação Cidade Sorriso, one of the city’s urban system operators, has acquired six units following a successful demonstration period, initiated back in November 2017. The demonstration vehicle was customized to meet specific requirements of Urbs (Urbanização de Curitiba S/A), the managing body that manages the city’s urban transportation system. The new fleet of six vehicles is to run in the first half of this year.

Silvio Munhoz, commercial director of Scania in Brazil, said: “Scania has been providing a series of demonstrations with the bi-articulated bus since its launch in 2015 in Brazil. We are very pleased that the operating results surprised the Viação Cidade Sorriso as Curitiba is a reference city in urban mobility. The Scania bi-articulated is competitive because of its lower operating cost and brings the advantage of the front engine, with less noise and easier access, while still reducing maintenance costs.”
