Russia – Volgabus of Volzhsky, Russia (a Russian Buses subsidiary) has delivered ten Volgabus CR12E electric buses to the city of St. Petersburg. The CR12E bus with a gross vehicle weight of 19t, has a passenger capacity of 85, including 26 seats. Using a ZF AxTrax AVE electric drive axle, power is supplied from Chinese-made batteries installed on the roof have electric capacity of 300kWh. To time taken to recharge the batteries fully is between 4.5 hours and five hours.
Unlike Moscow, that opted for rapidly charging GAZ and KAMAZ electric buses charged at stations at terminal on either end of the route, St. Petersburg has chosen a fundamentally different approach. The vehicles are charged at night at bus depots which does not require additional expenses in creating additional infrastructure. The charging station has capacity of 2MW. The electric buses with nighttime charging are fully independent of overhead wiring. Depending on air temperatures they have a range of between 200 and 300km.
