Sweden / USA – The Volvo Group of Gothenburg, Sweden has participated in a connected vehicle technology demonstration with a Volvo VNL along two connected freight corridors in Carson, California. Called Eco-Drive, the system integrates traffic signal data with vehicle dynamics to provide real-time speed recommendations. This is designed to mitigate harsh driving manoeuvres and potentially reduce the impact of freight movement through communities.

Volvo Group said it has worked closely with several key stakeholders in California to demonstrate the Eco-Drive technology as part of its involvement in the ‘Zero Emission Drayage Truck Demonstration Project.’ The project, which is led by the South Coast Air Quality Management District and funded by the California Climate Investments program, is aimed at reducing key criteria pollutants, greenhouse gases (GHGs) and petroleum usage from commercial vehicles.
