UK / Germany - Trailar Ltd of Manchester, UK, a new producer of solar-powered electric systems used to provide supplementary electrical energy for use with on-board ancillary equipment in trucks and buses, is seeing fast-growing demand for its products.

Announcing this at the annual Microlise Transport Conference in Coventry last month, Denny Hulme, co-founder and managing partner at Trailar said fleets were seeing fuel savings of some six to seven-litres of diesel fuel a day. A live on-screen demonstration on the stand of three Go-Ahead E400 double-deck buses operating in Southampton provided real-time evidence of these diesel fuel savings. These three buses were part of an order for 20 double-deck buses by Go-Ahead Group to be retro-fitted with flexible solar panels and Trailar’s charge controller and telematics unit in the coming four to six weeks, stated Hulme.
