CNH Industrial of London, UK, has announced a Memorandum of Understanding was signed in Rome in April by a group of companies to actively develop and promote the use of bio-methane in the transport sector throughout Italy. The companies involved included Confagricoltura (General Confederation of Italian Agriculture), CIB (Italian Biogas Consortium), ENI, Snam and the three brands of CNH Industrial that are most active in this area consisting of FPT Industrial, New Holland Agriculture and Iveco SpA.

FPT Industrial claims to be the leading European manufacturer of natural gas engines for industrial vehicles and applications. FPT says it has more than 45,000 methane or biomethane engines in circulation in Europe. CNH states there are almost 30,000 Iveco trucks and Iveco buses on European roads fuelled by methane, both compressed and liquefied. Compared with an equivalent Euro VI diesel, a Stralis NP fitted with its latest 460hp Cursor 13 Natural Gas engine running on liquefied natural gas (LNG) emits around 90% less NO2 emissions, 99% less particulate matter, and up to 95% less CO2 when using bio-methane.
