Russia – The government of Moscow city and PJSC KAMAZ ‎of Naberezhnye Chelny, Russia have signed an agreement whereby Kamaz will set up an assembly plant in the city for building more than 500 electric buses annually.

The partners say an assembly operation is to be set up with an investment of around RUB1bn in the grounds of Sokolniki Train Car Repair Plant, a branch of the Moscow city public transit company. In addition to bus assembly, Kamaz says it intends to organize production of the electric components to be used in the buses. It will also establish a centre for innovation, research and development for passenger electric transit buses. A report released by the Moscow city administration says the partners plan to build and reconstruct the production facilities with a total floorspace extending to some 75,000 square meters. As incentives to accelerate the project, the city has promised tax breaks for the new facility as well as to providing the necessary advanced infrastructure for the plant such as power networks and fast communication systems. The area is expected to be assigned the status of a technology park.
