85.5% of buses and coaches in Ecuador have locally built bodies says magazine survey

Ecuador - A national survey of 449 fleet operating companies conducted by the Ecuadorian magazine, Buen Viaje, specialized in tourism and bus operations, which represents 56.5% of the total of 709 dedicated to passenger transportation, revealed that the vast majority of buses in use in the country has bodies produced by domestic manufacturers.

The magazine’s research, under the responsibility of journalist Maritsa Guevara, showed that in 2018, 2,024 new buses were marketed, of which 1,665 were produced by Ecuadorian bus body builders, representing 85.5% of the new vehicles, and the import of 359 units, corresponded to just 14.5%. Of this total, 184 buses were produced in Brazil; 164 vehicles imported from China and 11 units came from other countries.
