Brazil – Brazil’s largest independent vehicle assembler and distributor of Hyundai and more recently Chery cars, CAOA Grupo (owned and operated by Carlos Alberto Oliveira Andrade, president and whose name is abbreviated to form for the company name), has bought the Ford Motor Company factory in São Bernardo do Campo in ABC Paulista. The announcement of the deal was confirmed in early September by the state governor, João Doria, and representatives of both companies. There are no details about the transaction.

In February 2019, Ford announced that it would cease all vehicle production at the plant as soon as the last order was fulfilled, and it would fully close by the end of 2019 at the latest. Whilst the facility produced the Fiesta car, it was the only Ford factory in Brazil producing trucks and this decision to close the plant reflected global restructuring and the decision taken at Ford’s global headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan to exit the South American truck market. Ford has said it is to remain in Brazil with the Camaçari factory in Bahia, which produces the Ka and EcoSport car models, and with its engine factory in Taubaté, São Paulo state.
