Marcopolo’s sales buoyant home and abroad

Brazil - Marcopolo SA of Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, reported revenues of   BRA898.6m (USD224m) in the first quarter of this year, which is an increase of 17.5% on BRA764.8m (USD191m) registered in the same period of 2018.

Revenues from sales in Brazil increased 23.3% to BRA411.3m (USD103m). Net profit, however, fell by 12.7% to BRA27.0m (USD6.75m) from BRA30.9m (USD7.73m) in the same quarter of the previous year. The profit during the quarter was affected by a one off cost of BRA19.2m (USD4.8m) relating to the cessation of operations at Metalpar Argentina SA in Gral, Buenos Aires, Argentina, a city bus body manufacturing joint venture subsidiary of Marcopolo SA and Industrias Metalúrgicas Paredes SA (Metalpar) of Camino a Melipilla (Maipú in Santiago).
