Pelican planning to bring two-axle electric double deck to UK

UK / China - Britain’s Yutong dealer, Pelican Bus & Coach of Castleford, UK is planning to bring a two-axle DC charging double deck to the UK, according to Richard Crump, managing director of Pelican Bus & Coach speaking at Bus & Coach 2019 in Birmingham last month.
Crump envisages that the first electric double deck prototype for the UK will be trialled in China next year. Critical to its development is getting the body weight right, the company is finalising the design at present and hope they built the first one in the middle of 2020. Depending on how the vehicle performs, Pelican is targeting deliveries in the beginning of 2021, stated Crump. However, the weight and performance are critical, and the company won’t bring the vehicle to the UK until it is satisfied it can meet the standards on quality and reliability and to compete. Crump said they were a year later than planned with this vehicle, but he was firmly hopeful of targeting 2021 for sales and deliveries.
