Sweden / Belgium - The current flagship coach from Volvo Buses, the 9900 model achieved the Grand Award Coach at Busworld last month, having been voted best coach in all categories. The Bus of the Year jury awarded high points for driving characteristics, design of both interior and exterior alongside ease of maintenance. Additionally, the 9900 was awarded the Safety Label Coach title - receiving higher points for its safety level than participating rivals.

Key features were said to be accessibility to the automatic fire-extinguishing system, a frontal impact system to protect the driver in the event of a collision, and the Zone Management System which provides information about the vehicle and allows the operator to remotely control the speed via a computer. Door illumination to assist passengers when boarding and exiting was also given credit. Volvo additionally announced availability of a new, longer 9700 coach measuring 15m and seating up to 65 passengers.
