UK / Sweden - The Freight in the City 2019 exhibition saw the first public showing of a Scania L-series hybrid truck. Its hybrid driveline combines a 320hp Scania DC09 126 Euro 6 diesel engine with a 177hp (130kW) electric motor, mounted between the engine and a Scania GRS895 gearbox equipped with Scania's Opticruise fully automated gear-selection system. The truck can be driven in electric-only mode, or in combination with diesel, biodiesel or HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil).

When used with renewable fuel, Scania said emissions of carbon dioxide are reduced by up to 92%. The truck features a steering rear-axle for maximum manoeuvrability and has a five star rating under Transport for London's Direct Vision Standard scheme. To achieve this, the low datum L-series cab was equipped with Scania's City Safe passenger door window.
