UK - Transport for London's Direct Vision Standard permit scheme is scheduled to come into force on October 26, 2020. The scheme, which requires the truck to comply with specific lines of sight and visibility from the driver’s cab, is to apply to all trucks over 12 tons gvw (with a few exceptions) and is aimed at making travel in the city safer for all road users and pedestrians. TfL's long term aim is to reduce traffic accident related deaths to zero by 2041. This date also sees the introduction of new Low Emission Zone requirements where all trucks, buses and coaches driven in the city must be Euro VI compliant.

All trucks under the Direct Vision Standard must comply with the star rating requirements assigned to them regarding the amount of vision the driver has from the cab – aided by mirrors, cameras and/or sensors and audible warnings to alert drivers of any hazards – notably cyclists or pedestrians in the danger zone to the nearside when the truck needs to make a left turn.
