Sweden - Volvo Bus Corporation of Gothenburg, Sweden, has renamed its latest hybrid-powered buses, the ‘S-Charge’ model range, which is an abbreviation for the word, Self-Charging. With this name change, Volvo is introducing improvements to the capabilities and control of its hybrid bus series when driving in electric mode. Volvo Bus indicated there would be three and possibly four versions of this new ‘S-Charge’ model: Volvo 7900 S-Charge 12m fully-built up city bus, Volvo 7900 S-Charge Articulated fully-built up city bus, Volvo B5L S-Charge single deck chassis and possibly a double deck chassis version.

Volvo Bus said the new Volvo S-Charge model range can now operate fully electrically at speeds of up to 50 km/h compared with just 20km/h previously. Depending on climate and topography, it said the new Volvo S-Charge could operate on electricity for up to 1km at a time.
