KAMAZ develops first electric refuse collection truck

Russia – June saw JSC KAMAZ present its first electric truck – Kamaz-53198 refuse collection truck, which has been developed by the KAMAZ Science and Technology Centre at the company’s headquarters in Naberezhnye Chelny. The vehicle named Chistogor is to become the basis for a new family of electrically powered trucks. The Chistogor chassis, which is based on the Kamaz-65208 truck model, has been modified specifically to accommodate electric drive and electronic control systems, this month starts extensive testing on Russia’s roads.

The Chistogor is a 4x2 rigid truck with a wheelbase of 4,400mm and gross vehicle weight of 19.5t with a 12t carrying capacity minus the weight of the body. It has disc brakes with EBS front and the rear. The batteries, which are mounted between the chassis rails offers a storage capacity of 156.6kWh. Fully laden the truck has a range of 100km, on a single charge, KAMAZ says. As a rule, KAMAZ continues, this is sufficient to permit the vehicle to operate fully for at least two rounds of refuse collection and unloading garbage, which is generally compatible with the regular operating routes and operations a garbage truck in many big cities in Russia today.
