Brazil - In its centenary year in Brazil, Ford Brasil Ltda surprised the market in February by announcing it is to close its factory in São Bernardo do Campo, ABC Paulista region, São Paulo state (SP) where it produces the Ford F-Series F-350 and F-4000 truck models and Ford Cargo truck, as well as the Ford Fiesta car, whose production will cease as soon as inventories run out.

Ford says it in talks with potential buyers of the São Bernardo do Campo factory and has reaffirmed its commitment to do what it can to obtain a positive outcome. The state government is involved in the process and has said Grupo Caoa (Brazil’s largest automotive distributor representing Hyundai cars and trucks, Chery cars and Ford cars), along with two other companies, have expressed interest in the operations; but there is no firm agreement in place as yet to secure the future of the pant and its workforce.
