Hino and BYD to form JV for the development and sale of battery electric trucks and buses

China / Japan - BYD Auto Industry Co Ltd (BYD) of Shenzhen, China and Hino Motors Ltd of Hino-shi, Japan have signed a joint venture agreement to set up a new company for battery electric commercial vehicle (BEV) development.

The new venture is scheduled to be established within China in 2021, with BYD and Hino each making a 50% capital investment. It will combine the strengths of both companies to develop BEVs and electric units with its initial aim to develop quickly highly suitable vehicles to meet customer needs in different markets, with its primary focus being Asia. The venture plans to use the Hino brand name for launch the vehicles during the first half of the 2020s.
