UK / Poland - Johnson Matthey Plc (JM) of London, a specialist chemicals company which manufactures catalysts, pharmaceutical materials, and pollution control systems, has confirmed its new battery cathode materials plant in Konin, Poland, which is under construction, is to be powered solely by electricity from renewable sources from the very start of production. JM has signed a contract with Axpo Polska, a subsidiary of Switzerland’s Axpo Holding AG, which is based in Baden to supply the renewable energy from solar and wind generation.

The new plant in Konin represents a major step in the commercialisation of eLNO, JM’s family of advanced, nickel-rich cathode materials designed for PHEV/BEV automotive battery applications. The new Konin factory is expected to commence commissioning in 2022 to supply automotive platforms for production in 2024.
