Sweden - Volvo Energy, is the name of a new business area within the Volvo Group in Gothenburg, which aims to strengthen the business life cycle of batteries as well as benefitting the customer by using ‘used batteries’ as a way of charging infrastructure.

Volvo states the environmental impact from electric and hybrid electric commercial vehicles and other machines will be reduced by giving ‘used batteries’ a second life in different applications. Volvo says: ‘Commercial vehicle batteries will be used for many years in the vehicle before they need to be replaced or remanufactured/refurbished. However, if completely new batteries are fitted to the vehicle, the used ones will generally still have considerable life left to offer, which is why, Volvo states, this makes them ideal for energy storage purposes in for example buildings or in green energy production. Repurposing these batteries also mean natural resources are conserved.’
