UK - Advanced Electric Machines Group Ltd (AEM) of Washington, a spin-off from Newcastle University's electric motor research team, which is commercialising its electric motors for industry, has unveiled its series of HDSRMs for commercial vehicles and SSRDs for light and passenger car motors, which it believes are the world’s most sustainable motors for electric vehicles (EVs).

AEM says its unique and patented technology means the HDSRM and SSRD can offer all the performance and efficiency benefits of a conventional permanent magnet motor without their considerable environmental drawbacks. Unlike current standard EV motors, HDSRM and SSRD are completely free of rare earth magnets. This means they do not require the mining of materials such as neodymium and dysprosium that have significant environmental impacts both locally and globally.
