Ambev contracts Eletra to retrofit 102 trucks with electric drive systems

BrazilAmbev S.A. of São Paulo, Brazil, the largest drinks manufacturer in Brazil, as part of its strategy1 to reduce its carbon footprint significantly says it plans to convert 102 of its diesel trucks used in city distribution operations to electric drive.

It has appointed local electric powertrain conversion specialist, Eletra Industrial Ltda of São Bernardo do Campo, Greater São Paulo area, initially to convert 102 diesel trucks to electric. The retrofit involves the removal of all the internal combustion components (engine, gearbox, clutch, and fuel tank) and installation of an electric drive and auxiliary electrical systems. In addition, electronic management modules, a recharging system and batteries are installed.
