Brazil - Mercedes-Benz do Brasil Ltda of São Bernardo do Campo, SP, in February this year announced it had plans to hire around 1,000 additional people for the São Bernardo do Campo plant in ABC Paulista, which currently employs 8,500. Most of the new vacancies posted at the beginning of the year were for temporary workers for six months to a year, with options to extend. The recruitment process also included apprenticeship positions.

Karl Deppen, president in Brazil and Latin America for the OEM, said the move was in anticipation of a significant market improvement for new trucks and buses this year. (Mercedes-Benz’ forecast for the Brazilian CV market in 2021 mirrors that of the National Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (ANFAVEA) of total 101,000 trucks and 16,000 bus chassis – both sectors increasing 13% on 2020 registrations. Mercedes-Benz was the market leader in both the truck and bus segments in 2020, with respective shares of 31.6% and 46.7%).
