Russian medium/heavy truck market contracts by 7.8%

Russia - Russia registered 72,683 medium and heavy trucks (GVW of 5t and more) in 2020, which was 7.8% fewer than 78,807 units in 2019, according to Avtostat Info. Russian brands constituted 59.3% of the market with 42,127 units; a decrease of 1.7% on the previous year. Sales of foreign models fell by 15.5% to 29,556 units in 2020 from 34,957 in 2019.

Market leader, KamAZ increased its sales by 1% to 28,207 units compared with 27,887 units, increasing its market share by 3.3% to 39%. New generations K4 and K5 employing Mercedes-Benz componentry were the main drivers of growth. For instance, sales of the KamAZ-5490 tractor series increased by 7% to 5,532 units and demand for tractors and tippers of the 6580 series more than doubled (126%) to 751 units. Demand for its K3 generation trucks derived from the 65115 and 43118 families declined by 7% and 5% respectively to 5,490 and 6,472 units, respectively.
