India planning to adopt ECE tyre labelling standards

New Delhi – Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) for the government of India, has announced it plans to implement a ‘Star Rating’ system for tyres, which will be based also on standards set by the European Union; ‘Tyre Labelling’ standards set under the regulation UNECE R 117. (Revisions to the Economic Commission for Europe tyre labelling standards were recently adopted on May 1, 2021).

Testing capabilities at the nodal automotive test agency in the South – Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC) in Chennai, have been strengthened to pioneer these tyre labelling and certification tests in India.
