New Delhi – Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) had issued draft notification amendments to mandate installation of fire detection and alarm systems in all new school and intercity buses throughout the vehicle, which now includes the passenger compartment in addition to the engine compartment.
The draft amendment proposes to amend the Automotive Industry Standards (AIS), which are based on experiments carried out by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the introduction of protection of the occupant’s compartment from fire.
