Brazil - Following the same path adopted by drinks company, Ambev, which in April announced it was converting 102 diesel trucks to electric, another Brazilian operator is following suit.
The company, Protege S/A Proteção e Transporte de Valores, headquartered in São Paulo, is the second largest company involved in the transportation of cash and other high value commodities in the country; it is also using the company, Eletra Industrial Ltda of São Bernardo do Campo, a manufacturer of electric buses, hybrids, and trolleybuses, to convert its vehicles with electric drivelines. The first vehicle to be converted to electric started testing last month (May) in the city of São Paulo. The vehicle has a range of 75 kilometres, and it can be fully recharged in two and a half hours; Protege is investing in charging stations at its depots in the city.
