Brazil - At the beginning of the year, Volvo Latin America Ltda of São José dos Pinhais, Paraná announced it was hiring of 400 temporary employees for the plant in Curitiba (PR). This decision was based on market indicators of truck demand was rising sharply, and so significantly so, Volvo recognized that if it did not strengthen its workforce, it would risk being unable to meet future demand. At that time, Volvo was estimating growth in market demand for heavy trucks of some 40%. At the five-month mark, Volvo forecast of strong growth proved to be correct, and it is now revising its forecast upwards of 40%!

Wilson Lirmann, president of the Volvo Latin America Group, said: “Since the second half of last year, the market has been showing an accelerated recovery. We started the year with a firm schedule for six months. The growing movement is likely to continue because it relates to the world's economic growth and demand for commodities."
