Brazil – Trailer and truck body builders in Brazil are warning the price increases in raw materials will impact economic recovery and their businesses this year. In particular, the impact the increase in the price of steel – still the main building commodity – is likely to have a negative impact on sales and the ability of the manufacturers to supply customers in 2021.

One such company with this warning is AB-Rodofort Implementos Rodoviários of Limeira. In July this year, the company says steel manufacturers plan to make a fifth re-adjustment of the price of steel by adding a further 15% to the cost. According to the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP) between January 2020 and March 2021, the price of steel has increased by an average of 79%. In early May this year, steelmakers announced further increases ranging from 10% to 18% to the steel price.
