Wrightbus unveils fuel cell and battery-electric buses

UK – Bus manufacturer Wrightbus of Ballymena, Northern Ireland, has announced two single-deck zero emission buses. The company showcased the hydrogen-powered GB Kite Hydroliner at Cenex LCV21, with the same e-systems powering the battery-powered GB Kite Electroliner. Both vehicles are expected to enter series production in Q1 2022.

The Hydroliner is powered by a FC Move fuel cell module from Canadian firm Ballard Power Systems supported by a battery with optional capacities of 30 or 45kW. Stored on the roof of the vehicle, the hydrogen tanks can store 50 kilograms of fuel. The axles on both the Hydroliner and Electroliner are supplied by ZF, with the Hydroliner’s e-axle driving the vehicle. The Electroliner is powered by a Voith motor and a Forsee battery with a maximum capacity of 567 kWh, with smaller 454 and 340 kWh configurations available.
