UKIneos Group Ltd, a chemicals company based in London, UK, has announced an investment of more than EUR2bn into electrolysis projects across Europe, with the goal of producing ‘green’ or renewable hydrogen. This represents one of the largest single investments in green hydrogen production in Europe.1

The project unveiled by Ineos involves the construction of a series of production facilities over the next ten years. It is to begin with the building of a 20 MW electrolyser at the Port of Rafnes in Norway with power from renewable energy sources, followed by a 100 MW electrolyser in Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Ineos estimates that each plant, once operational, will help to reduce the company’s carbon emissions by 22,000 and 120,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, respectively. The company has plans for projects in Belgium, France, and the UK in the future.
