CESL launches Grand Challenge to deploy e-buses in 9 major cities

New Delhi - State-owned Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL)1 November announced it was floating the ‘Grand Challenge’. The Grand Challenge invites state transport undertakings (STUs) for nine cities to express their desire / plans for investing in for electric buses and access the FAME-II2 subsidy,(under NEMMP3) which provides funding to the equivalent value of some 3,472 buses. The cities to be covered under this ‘Grand Challenge’ are Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Surat, and Pune.

After measuring the total demand for the scheme, CESL will allocate funding based on a rating system. Through this Grand Challenge, CESL intends to enhance its support of state governments in achieving their respective electric mobility targets and further build an infrastructure for electric mobility in the country.
