China / UK – Zhengzhou Yutong Group Co Ltd (“Yutong”), a manufacturer of commercial vehicles based in Zhengzhou, Henan, China, has announced a pledge to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, ten years ahead of China’s 2060 target. According to Kent Chang, Director of Yutong Overseas Distribution Sales, this represents the “first net-zero emissions initiative in China’s bus industry”.
Yutong launched its ‘Race to Zero’ initiative on 28 October together with the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), a non-profit advocacy group for the public transport sector based in Brussels, Belgium. The policy consists of several commitments, including the development of new zero-carbon and autonomous vehicles, and support for the expansion of charging and hydrogen infrastructure.
