Rio Tinto invests in battery start-up InoBat

Slovakia – Mining giant Rio Tinto has announced it is to invest in Bratislava-based battery developer InoBat Auto. InoBat is currently developing a 290,000ft² battery R&D centre and pilot line in Voderady, Slovakia, where it plans to integrate research and development activities together with battery cell-manufacturing.

InoBat has also partnered with Chinese battery component manufacturer Wuxi Lead Intelligent Equipment Co. Ltd to develop the pilot production line to be used at the Voderady plant. The line, in its entirety, will be designed, manufactured, and assembled by Wuxi Lead. Capable of producing 260,000 battery cells per year, the project aims to produce its first batteries by the end of 2022.
