Switch Mobility receives 300 electric bus order for Bengaluru, India

UK / IndiaSwitch Mobility Ltd, a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland based in Sherburn in Elmet, UK, has received an order for 300 12-metre electric buses from the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transportation Corporation, a government agency which operates public transport in the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. 

The battery-electric buses have been procured in a 12-year Gross Cost Contract, meaning that Switch Mobility will be paid to supply, operate and maintain the buses while ticket revenues will go to the transport authority. Switch claims the buses will achieve fuel savings of 5.5m litres annually, leading to a carbon emissions reduction of more than 14,500 tonnes per year alongside cost savings. The buses will be manufactured by Switch Mobility Pvt Ltd which is also based in Bengaluru.
